Darkspace - Darkspace II

Darkspace are one of the bands that are active in the black metal scene and have a pretty strong following among most fans The music is in essence a mix of two genres, black metal and dark ambient. The blend makes it hard to define this band as purely black metal since only half this album actually has guitars and drums on it. The three songs are also extremely long and should be viewed as one whole piece. Darkspace take things further into the ambient and atmospheric territory, utilizing minimalistic keys and looping guitar themes. There is a lot more breathing space, especially when they turn completely ambient; yet when they crank up the electricity, things get deliciously suffocating. They make use of more clean vocals, which sound like incantations, and the screaming vocals are simply out of this world. If you love darkness, you could do a lot worse than losing yourselves in Darkspace.

Sun of the Sleepless - Poems to the Wretched Hearts EP

With a sound of the early days of Empyrium the approach to create something new with the ingredients of raw Black Metal has a failure within and it is the approach itself that prevents the music from reaching a higher level. The connection to Emyprium is too close and the state of independence not to that extend elaborated that this release would be worth to be cheered as a now and promising band. If the listener is familiar with ‘A Wintersunset’, by listening to this album the memories of this record would suddenly appear before ones eyes and like a woken ghost it is hard to get rid of them again.

Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss

Tercer larga duración de Burzum que de la mano de Varg Vikernes (todos los instrumentos) alcanza uno de sus trabajos más notables, reconocido por el mismo Vikernes como el MEJOR disco de Burzum en su etapa de ambient black metal.

“Hvis Lyset Tar Oss” (si la luz nos atrapa) comienza con la atmosférica “Det Som Engang Var” (aquello que alguna vez fue) en la cual se aprecia de inmediato la inclusión permanente de sintetizadores los cuales crean todo un ambiente épico y de fantasía que al mezclarse con los riffs más tradicionales de Vikernes forman un espectro sonoro bastante interesante, lo que extraña de inmediato aparte de lo onírico de las melodías son la duración de estas mismas que oscilan por los diez minutos, incluso algunas sobrepasan ese tiempo (Det Som Engang Var es el caso) dándole un mayor desarrollo a las composiciones, el disco continua con “Hvis Lyset Tar Oss” tema que le da nombre al disco, este tema esta mas en la tónica de los trabajos anteriores de Burzum (“Burzum”, “Aske” y “Det Som Engang Var”) y vendría a reafirmarnos que Burzum a pesar de las atmósferas sigue siendo igual de brutal que siempre, con Vikernes gritando como un hostil animal hambriento y las bases bajo/batería básicas pero a la vez dinámicas y aceleradas nos dan muestra de que Burzum no pierde su oscura esencia, el próximo tema es “Inn I Slottet Fra Drøemen” (hacia el castillo desde el sueño), este tema es una especie de fusión de los dos temas anteriores, por su dualidad de ritmos, en su inicio parte veloz y dinámicamente y desde el medio hasta el final de la canción se vuelve un viaje onírico acompañado de la putrefacta voz de Vikernes como guía de esta travesía hacia lugares oscuros pero a la vez atrayentes con esas atmósferas envolventes y cautivadoras que continúan haciendo su labor en “Tomhet” (vacío) que resulta ser el corte instrumental de Hvis Lyset Tar Oss y por lo demás su conclusión, catorce minutos de esos ambientes que Vikernes sabe evocar dándole toques de Folclore y también la componente mas espacial.

Aythis - Doppelgänger

Aythis hunde sus raíces musicales en el dark ambient, neoclásico y el medieval fantástico que nos sublima. Es el proyecto personal de la francesa Carline Van Roos, miembro de bandas de doom metal como Lethian Dreams y Remembrance, nacido a principios de 2006 y que presenta su primer disco, Doppelgänger, en el sello inglés Paradigm Recordings.

En su myspace podéis escuchar dos breves fragmentos que pueden acercarnos brevemente a las sensaciones y reflexiones de aislamiento, silencio y muerte que dominan un trabajo bello en su melancolía.
